WATSON

 

Joined the Sylva Police Department in May 2002

Was previously employed by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office 1999-2002

Has a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science, Minor in Criminal Justice from Gardner-Webb University

Received Basic Law Enforcement Training from Southwestern Community College

Currently holds an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate

She has been certified by the National Institute for Truth Verification, for Advanced Examiner in Truth Verification Testing and Examination Techniques

She represents the Sylva Police Department as an advocate for A.W.A.K.E. (Adults Working and Advocating for Kids Empowerment)

Member of the CCPT (Community Child Protective Team) and CFPT (Child Fatality Prevention Team)

 Detective Doug Farmer

FARMER

Joined the Sylva Police Department in December of 2010, has served as Detective since 2015

Was previously employed by Macon County Sheriffs Office 1998-2010

Served as an International Police Officer in Iraq 2006-2007

Received Basic Law Enforcement Training from Southwestern Community College

Currently holds an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate

Trained in Basic, Intermediate and A.T.F. SWAT  and is a Law Enforcement Sniper

Received specialized training in: Interview and Interrogation, Investigative Fundamentals and Case Preparation, Drug Interdiction, Police Law Institute, Woodland Man Tracking, Executive Protection, IED awareness, Terrorism awareness, and Leadership Development

He is a General Instructor certified by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission

Field Training Officer and Agency Training Coordinator

He is also an Instructor for Stop Sticks, by Stop Tech Ltd.

Detective Zach Dezarn

DEZARN

Joined the Sylva Police Department in January 2014

Previously employeed by Highlands Police Department 2012-2014

Has a Bachelors Degree from Milligan College

Received Basic Law Enforcement Training though Southwestern Community College

Recieved specialty training in: Interview and Interrorgation, Narcotics Investigations, Evidence Collection, Traffic Crash Investigation, Police Law Institute, Officer Safety and Readiness

Certified Law Enforcement Instructor through the North Carolina Justice Academy
